Vote for Player of the Round
4league lets a competition crown a Player of the Round by public vote, and a Player of the Tournament at the end. The two are not the same mechanism: the round award is an open, role-weighted vote that anyone signed in can join — fans included, while the tournament MVP is an organizer's manual pick with no public vote. This guide explains who can do what, how votes are weighted, and how voting ties into experience points.
While a Player of the Round vote is active, every authenticated user can cast a vote — fans, players, team managers, referees and organizers alike. There is no permission check on casting a vote. What differs is not whether you may vote but how much your vote counts: votes are weighted by role (see below). Only the competition's owner/organizer can start, stop, reset or configure the vote.
Player of the Round vs. Player of the Tournament
| Player of the Round | Player of the Tournament | |
|---|---|---|
| How the winner is chosen | Public, role-weighted vote. | Organizer's manual pick — no public vote. |
| Who can decide | Anyone signed in casts a (weighted) vote; the organizer opens and closes voting. | The competition owner/organizer alone. |
| Setup screen | "Choose by vote" or "Manual player" tabs. | The vote tab is hidden — only the manual picker is shown. |
For the Player of the Tournament (internally the round value 'tournament'), the choose-by-vote tab is removed and only the manual picker remains. The organizer selects the player directly and sets them as the winner. Don't expect to vote for a tournament MVP — that award is handed out, not balloted.
Where Voting Lives
Open the competition, then the Matches tab. Each round (and the tournament) exposes its Player-of-the… entry from there. There are two faces to it:
-
1
The organizer's setup screen. The competition owner shortlists the candidate players (or picks a winner manually), tunes the Vote Settings, and taps Start Vote.
-
2
The public voting screen. Once the vote is live, everyone opens a list of the shortlisted players with a Vote link beside each. Tapping it records your vote; your pick is highlighted and badged "voted". You can switch your vote to another candidate while voting is open.
A per-match Player of the Match rating is a closely related but distinct flow — it has its own voting screen and a different internal vote type ('motm', versus the round ballot's 'motr'). Unlike the round ballot, it is the per-match vote that actually credits the +10 XP (see below).
How Votes Are Weighted
4league does not run a flat one-person-one-vote. Every vote is worth a number of points decided by the voter's relationship to the competition — the vote power. A single organizer's vote moves the tally far more than a passing fan's:
| Voter | Vote power |
|---|---|
| Organizer (the competition owner) | 10 |
| Referee (a competition staff member) | 8 |
| Team manager (owns a team in the competition) | 5 |
| Connected player (linked to a team in the competition) | 2 |
| Everyone else (e.g. a fan) | 1 |
Your vote adds its full power to the chosen player's running total, and switching your vote moves those points across. The role used for the weight is determined per-competition at the moment you vote — the first matching tier above wins (owner is checked before referee, then team manager, then connected player, then the default of 1).
Six fans back striker A (6 points). The organizer and one referee back midfielder B — that's 10 + 8 = 18 points — so B leads despite fewer voters. A team manager then switches to A (+5), but A is still behind. The weighting is intentional: people closer to the competition carry more sway.
Voting and the +10 XP Reward
Submitting your first Player of the Match rating credits +10 XP toward your level (see Player Achievements, XP & Stats). The Player of the Round ballot shows the same "experience earned" notification when you first vote, but the round ballot itself does not currently add the XP — only the per-match Player-of-the-Match rating does. Either way it pays out only once: changing your vote afterwards updates your pick but does not award it again.
Experience earned from voting is XP toward your level — it never costs or grants skill points. See Player Achievements, XP & Stats for how XP and levels work.
Organizer Controls — Start, Stop, Reset & Settings
Only the competition owner/organizer sees and can use these. The voting screen shows the Stop Vote and Reset buttons only to the owner; everyone else just sees the candidate list and the Vote links.
-
1
Choose the candidates. On the setup screen's Choose by vote tab, the organizer edits the shortlist of top players who will appear on the ballot.
-
2
Start Vote. Opens voting to everyone. The ballot goes live with the chosen candidates.
-
3
Stop Vote. Closes voting and finalizes the result. If a vote duration was set, the time remaining is shown on the button.
-
4
Reset & retry. Clears the current vote so the organizer can pick a new set of players and run it again.
Vote Settings
From the setup screen the organizer opens Vote Settings to configure two things:
- Number of players — the maximum number of candidates shown on the ballot.
- Vote duration — how many hours the vote stays open. Leave it blank to keep the vote open until the organizer stops it manually.
Alternatively, on the Manual player tab the organizer can skip the public vote entirely and name the winner directly — which is the only mode available for the tournament MVP.
Platform Support
Voting is reached from the competition's Matches tab and is intended to work for everyone signed in. This claim is flagged for verification: the fan-side vote UI has not yet been confirmed to render on both the web app and mobile (iOS/Android). Treat "available on web and mobile" as to be confirmed until QA verifies it — this section will be finalized once that check is done.
See Player Achievements, XP & Stats for the awards that voting feeds into, and the Competition Profile overview for the Matches tab where voting starts.
