Post a Competition News Announcement
A news announcement is an article published to a competition's News feed in 4league — a title, a body, an optional image, and an optional pin to keep it at the top. Anyone following the competition can read it. This guide covers how to write and publish one, who is allowed to, and the one place where what you see in the app does not match what the server will accept.
What a News Announcement Is
News announcements live in the competition's News tab, separate from the private inbox messages. Each announcement is tied to a single competition by its ID — when you publish, it appears in the news feed of that competition. Readers don't need any special role to see it.
- A title (required) and a free-text article body.
- An optional image attachment shown at the top of the article.
- An optional pin, which keeps the article at the top of the news feed.
Who Can Post — the Two-Layer Rule
This is the single most important thing to understand before you start, because the app's interface and the server's permission check do not agree.
| Role | Sees the “+” button? | Can actually publish? |
|---|---|---|
| Owner (role 1) | Yes | Yes |
| Co-organizer (role 2) | Yes | No — the save is rejected by the server |
The header “+” button on the News tab is rendered for both the competition owner and co-organizers. But the backend that saves the article only accepts the request from the owner. A co-organizer can open the editor, write the whole article, and tap publish — and the server will reject it with a no-rights error. Only the competition owner can successfully publish news. If you are a co-organizer and publishing fails, ask the owner to post it.
Post from the Competition's News Tab
This is the normal flow from inside the competition you want to publish to.
Open the Messages screen and switch to News
With the competition selected, open the Messages screen and choose the News tab. For a competition, News is the default tab.
Tap the “+” in the header
Tap the + button in the top-right of the header. (If the news feed is empty, there's also a “tap to create news” prompt with a + in the empty-state card.) This opens the Create new article editor.
Add an image (optional)
Tap the image area at the top to pick a photo from your library. It's cropped to a 16:9 banner and uploaded before you publish. You can publish without an image.
Write the title and article
Enter a title — this is required; you can't publish without one. Then write the article body. A live character count is shown under the text.
Pin it (optional)
Toggle Pin article to keep this announcement at the top of the news feed. Leave it off for a normal, chronological post.
Publish
Tap Publish (or the check mark in the header). The article is saved to the competition's news feed and you're returned to the News tab. If you're an owner, it appears immediately; if you're a co-organizer, the save is rejected (see the two-layer rule above).
If you add an image, the publish/check-mark control is disabled until the upload finishes. Wait for the spinner over the image to clear, then publish.
Post from the Organization Media Screen
The same article editor is also reachable for organization admins from the organization's Media screen. Creating news there opens the identical Create new article editor and follows the same steps and the same owner-only save rule. The article is still tied to a competition ID, so it lands in that competition's news feed.
Rain forces the organizer of a Sunday league to push round 7 to the following week. From the competition's News tab she taps the +, adds a photo of the waterlogged pitch, titles it “Round 7 Postponed”, writes the new dates, and toggles Pin so it stays at the top of the feed. She publishes, and every follower of the competition sees the pinned announcement at the top of their News tab.
Editing and Pinning Later
Opening an existing article in the editor lets the owner update its title, body, image, and pinned state and save again. Pinning is a simple on/off toggle — turn it off later to let the article fall back into the normal chronological order of the feed.
News is one of the two halves of a competition's Messages screen. For the private, role-restricted inbox side, and for the rest of the competition's management tools, see the Competition Profile guide.
