Postpone or Reschedule a Match
When a fixture can’t go ahead as planned, 4league lets you flag it as postponed so everyone following the competition knows, and then reschedule it to a new date. Rescheduling and postponing are two distinct actions that work together — this guide explains both.
Who Can Postpone or Reschedule
Both actions follow the same single match-management rule. Three kinds of user are allowed:
| Who | Condition |
|---|---|
| Organizer / co-organizer | A competition admin or owner (role 1 or 2) can always postpone and reschedule. |
| Assigned referee | A referee assigned to that match can postpone and reschedule it. |
| Team Manager of a playing team | Only when the competition has managersCanAddScore enabled. With that setting on, a manager of either playing team may postpone and reschedule. |
This is the shared userCanManageMatch rule. Anyone outside the three roles above receives a 403 noRights response and the attempt is logged as a security event.
Postpone a Match
Postponing marks the fixture as not happening on its current date and alerts followers — without yet committing to a new one.
Open the match
From the competition schedule, open the fixture and go to its edit screen.
Tap “Postpone”
Confirm the postpone action. The app sends a GET /postpone-match/:matchId request and the backend sets postponed: true on the match.
Followers are notified
Everyone following the competition receives a “match postponed” push notification naming the two teams. For playoff or playout matches, the notification is sent under the parent competition so the right audience is reached.
Postponing does not require a new date. Use it the moment you know a match won’t go ahead — for example a waterlogged pitch on the morning of the game — so followers are informed immediately. You can set the new date whenever it’s agreed.
A match is set for Saturday at 16:00. Overnight rain leaves the pitch unplayable. At 08:00 the organizer opens the match and taps “Postpone”. The fixture is flagged as postponed and every follower of the competition immediately gets a “match postponed” push for that fixture.
Reschedule a Match
Rescheduling means giving the match a new date — and there is no separate “un-postpone” step.
Open the match edit screen
Return to the postponed (or any) fixture and open its date field.
Pick the new date and save
Choose the new day and kick-off time in the day picker and confirm. This re-uses the same POST /match/saveDate flow described in Set Match Date & Location.
The postponed flag clears automatically
Saving a new date sets postponed: false in the same update, so the fixture returns to a normal scheduled state. Players of both teams and team followers receive the new-date notification.
You don’t have to postpone before rescheduling — setting a new date on any match always clears the postponed flag. And you can postpone without ever setting a fresh date if the fixture is simply on hold. Saving a date is what un-postpones a match; there is no dedicated “resume” button.
Two days after the rained-off game, both managers agree on next Wednesday at 19:00. The organizer opens the postponed match, sets that date in the picker, and saves. The postponed flag is cleared automatically, the fixture shows its new kick-off time, and both squads get a “date for the match is set” push.
