Set Up an Organization Ranking

An organization ranking aggregates team performance across all of your organization's competitions into a single leaderboard. You configure it with a short two-step setup wizard — choose how points are calculated, then start from a preset — and the wizard drops you into the ranking editor where you fine-tune the scoring rules and tiebreaks. This guide covers the wizard and the two editor tabs you are most likely to touch first: Rules and Tiebreaks.

🔒
PRO organization, organizer/owner only

Creating and editing a ranking is an organizer/owner action on a PRO organization. Only an organization admin (the owner role) sees the Save action and the preview banner in the editor; other roles can open the editor read-only. For how rankings are read, shared, and how points are computed across competitions, see Team Rankings.

The Setup Wizard

The wizard has exactly two steps, shown by the two dots at the top of the screen. Step 1 decides how points are calculated (or turns rankings off entirely); Step 2 decides the starting values. Finishing the wizard creates the ranking and opens the ranking editor.

1

Choose a ranking method (or disable rankings)

Step 1 opens with an Enable rankings toggle. Leave it on and pick exactly one of the three methods below. Turn it off and the method cards grey out — finishing the wizard then creates a disabled ranking with no method, which you can re-enable later.

2

Pick a preset, or configure manually

Step 2 offers four presets — Local, Regional, National, International — as selectable chips. Select one and tap Finish to create the ranking pre-filled with that preset's defaults. Or tap the Configure manually link to skip presets and start from blank defaults. Either path lands you in the editor.

Step 1 — The three methods

Method What it does Best for
Points Flat base points per result, summed across every contributing competition. No per-competition multiplier — a win is worth the same everywhere. Recreational and single-tier leagues where every competition counts equally.
Coefficient (weighted) Base points multiplied by a per-competition weight and a per-affiliate coefficient, so some competitions or sub-organizations count for more. Federations with tiered divisions (Div 1 vs Div 3) or affiliated clubs of differing prestige.
Rolling Only results inside a recent time window count, with optional time decay so older results fade. Reflects current form rather than all-time totals. "Who's hot right now" tables and back-to-back tournament series.
💡
Disabling rankings is a first-class choice

Switching the Enable rankings toggle off and finishing the wizard creates the ranking system in a disabled state — nothing is published and no leaderboard is shown. This is the supported way to "not have a ranking yet" while keeping the slot ready. You can return later, enable it, and pick a method. There is no delete; disabling is how a ranking is taken out of circulation.

Step 2 — The four presets

Each preset seeds the new ranking with sensible defaults for its scale — base points, default tiebreak order, and (for the weighted and rolling methods) starting weights and windows. The chips are Local, Regional, National, and International, ordered from smallest to largest scope. After the ranking is created you can change any of these values in the editor, so the preset is just a starting point — not a lock-in.

If none of the presets fit, tap Configure manually. This creates the ranking with no preset applied and opens the editor at blank/default values, ready for you to set every field yourself.

The Ranking Editor

Finishing the wizard opens the editor, a tabbed screen with five tabs: Rules, Competitions, Affiliates, Window, and Tiebreaks. This guide focuses on the two you configure first — Rules and Tiebreaks. The other three (which competitions feed the ranking, per-affiliate coefficients, and the rolling time window) are documented in Team Rankings.

An organizer/owner saves changes with the Save action in the header. Edits to weights, windows, and tiebreaks land in a preview first (a banner appears) so you can inspect the resulting table before it goes live; scoring-rule edits trigger a separate confirm-and-republish step. You cannot mix a scoring-rule change and a preview-eligible change in the same save — the editor asks you to save them one at a time.

Rules Tab

The Rules tab holds the scoring dials, grouped into collapsible sections. Each field is a numeric stepper. The table below lists every field, its default, and its allowed range.

Section Field Default What it controls
Match results pointsForWin 3 Points awarded for a win. Minimum 0.
pointsForDraw 1 Points awarded for a draw. Minimum 0.
pointsForLoss 0 Points awarded for a loss. Minimum 0.
bonusPerGoal 0 Extra points added per goal scored. Minimum 0.
Stage bonuses knockoutBonus 0 Bonus for reaching the knockout stage. Minimum 0.
finalBonus 0 Bonus for reaching the final. Minimum 0.
Conduct yellowCardPenalty 0 Points adjustment per yellow card. Can be negative (down to −10) to deduct points.
redCardPenalty 0 Points adjustment per red card. Can be negative (down to −10) to deduct points.
Notifications notificationThreshold 3 How many positions a team must move before a ranking-change notification fires. Range 1–20.
ℹ️
Negative conduct penalties are intentional

The Conduct section is the only place where negative values are allowed. Set yellowCardPenalty to −1 and a team loses a point for every booking; set redCardPenalty to −3 to punish sendings-off harder. Leave them at 0 if you don't want discipline to affect the table. The Match results and Stage bonuses fields all floor at 0.

⚠️
Changing win/draw/loss republishes the whole table

Editing pointsForWin, pointsForDraw, or pointsForLoss and saving triggers a confirmation, because these scoring rules are reapplied retroactively to every historical result — the ranking always reflects the current rules across the full history. The notificationThreshold field is different: it is saved on its own and does not recompute the table.

Tiebreaks Tab

When two teams finish on equal points, the ranking walks an ordered list of tiebreakers until one separates them. The Tiebreaks tab is where you choose which tiebreakers apply and in what order. Add a tiebreaker with the Add tiebreaker action, remove one with its delete button, and reorder the list — the order is the priority, top to bottom.

Tiebreaker How it resolves a tie
headToHead Compares results of matches played directly between the tied teams.
goalDifference Net goal difference across contributing matches.
goalsFor Total goals scored across contributing matches.
totalWins Number of wins across contributing matches.
alphabetical Last-resort stable fallback so the table never has an undefined order. Keep this at the bottom.
🔁
Reordering differs by platform

On mobile (iOS/Android) the tiebreak list is drag-reorderable — press and hold the move handle on a row and drag it up or down. On the web client there is no drag; each row shows up/down arrow buttons instead. Both produce the same ordered list.

🏆
Scenario: Regional federation, fair-play flavour

A regional organizer runs the wizard, picks Coefficient (weighted) in Step 1 and the Regional preset in Step 2. In the editor's Rules tab they keep 3-1-0, set redCardPenalty to −2 to discourage dirty play, and raise notificationThreshold to 5 so teams aren't pinged for tiny shuffles. On the Tiebreaks tab they drag headToHead to the top, then goalDifference, then goalsFor, leaving alphabetical last. Save, review the preview, publish.
